กลุ่มเอ็นจีโอเรียกร้องเร่งดำเนินคดีซีอีโอและพวกล่าสัตว์ป่าคุ้มครองตามกระบวนการยุติธรรม

“ต้องไม่มีใครอยู่เหนือกฎหมาย”

7 กุมภาพันธ์ 2561 - กลุ่มเอ็นจีโอด้านการอนุรักษ์สัตว์ป่า ที่ประกอบไปด้วย มูลนิธิฟรีแลนด์ มูลนิธิโลกสีเขียว มูลนิธิรักสัตว์ป่า เครือข่ายเฝ้าระวังการค้าสัตว์ป่าและพืชป่า (ทราฟฟิค) องค์กรไวล์ดเอด และ กองทุนสัตว์ป่าโลกสากล (World Wide Fund for Nature)ร่วมเรียกร้องให้ทุกฝ่ายเร่งดำเนินคดีซีอีโออิตาเลียนไทยและพวกคดีล่าสัตว์ป่าคุ้มครองตามกระบวนการ ยุติธรรม แนะพิจารณาเพิ่มบทลงโทษคดีล่าสัตว์ป่า พร้อมทั้งให้กำลังใจเจ้าหน้าที่กรมอุทยานฯ ที่ปฏิบัติหน้าที่อย่างกล้าหาญในพื้นที่เกิดเหตุ

“เขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าทุ่งใหญ่นเรศวรคือมรดกโลกทางธรรมชาติของประเทศไทย ไม่มีใคร และไม่ว่าผู้นั้นจะเป็นใคร มีสิทธิ์ละเมิด หรือมีเอกสิทธิ์อยู่เหนือกฎหมาย มีการประเมินว่าประชากรเสือดำ หรือเสือดาวอินโดจีน (Indo-Chinese leopard/Panthera pardus delacouri) มีอยู่เพียง 2,500ตัวทั่วภูมิภาค เอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ซึ่งนักวิทยาศาสตร์ได้จัดให้มีสถานภาพใกล้สูญพันธุ์ตามรายชื่อชนิดพันธุ์ที่ถูกคุกคามขององค์การระหว่างประเทศเพื่อการอนุรักษ์ธรรมชาติ (IUCN) คดีดังกล่าวไม่เพียงแต่แสดงให้เห็นถึงความสำคัญของการบังคับใช้กฎหมาย อย่างกล้าหาญของเจ้าหน้าที่พิทักษ์ป่าในพื้นที่ แต่สะท้อนว่าทุกฝ่ายที่เกี่ยวข้องควรพิจารณาว่าบทลงโทษผู้กระทำผิด เพียงพอที่จะทำให้คนเกรงกลัวการล่าสัตว์ป่าหรือไม่”   

 “กลุ่มเอ็นจีโอหวังที่จะเห็นผู้รักษากฎหมายดำเนินคดีกับผู้กระทำผิดตามกระบวนการยุติธรรมโดยเร็ว และหวังว่า ทุกฝ่ายจะเห็นความสำคัญและสนับสนุนงานด้านการพิทักษ์ป่า การต่อต้านและปราบปรามการลักลอบล่าสัตว์ป่า เพื่อให้เจ้าหน้าที่กรมอุทยานฯ ที่ทำงานอยู่ในพื้นที่สามารถป้องกันและตรวจจับคดีลักษณะนี้ในอนาคต”
